Willson and McKee have been touring professionally since 1990, specializing in original as well as traditional Irish and Scottish acoustic music. Ken Willson & Kim McKee call their music “Rocky Mountain Celtic”… what Celtic becomes when it settles down comfortable in the west. They are Americans doing what they do best – interpreting their roots music in fresh and original ways! The combination of their Celtic heritage plus their Montana and Colorado roots gives them a uniquely original sound, unlike anything on the current soundscape. Original songs that have an ancient sound and traditional songs and tunes, rewriting them with their distinctive style. Blazing Celtic instrumentals, warm harmony vocals, and a lot of laughter complete the Willson & McKee experience! They have garnered rave reviews from world and folk publications such as Dirty Linen Magazine: “Willson & McKee both have clear sweet voices… and are accomplished and versatile musicians! ... Impressive and expressive!

A Joe Jencks' concert is definitely not a visit to the inner world of some guy with a guitar who would like us all to sit still and listen politely. It’s an occasion for singing, a contagious rising up of voices, an act of joy and defiance. But don’t expect an evening that goes no further or asks no more probing questions than a string of protest songs. As deep as Joe Jencks’ union and social convictions go, his animating purpose runs deeper, tapping into the latent, nearly mystical beauty that a roomful of people can unleash by singing together. “The key to the future is people joining in. The music of Joe Jencks captures this essential spirit. Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on the traditions.” -Pete Seeger “Listen to Joe! A clear tenor voice; a heart that’s in the right place, close to the skin; a sense of justice tempered by a sense of humor.... How can you go wrong?” -Charlie King

Champion Celtic violinist Jamie Laval and mandolin champion Ashley Broder form a stunning instrumental duo rendering traditional Irish, Scottish, and bluegrass music with hints of classical refinement and ethnic music from around the world. The San Diego Tribune recently featured the new duo in a full-page spread, calling Ashley a “mandolin phenomenon.” Mike Marshal admiringly refers to Ashley as “A rising star in the world of traditional and alternative music who is as comfortable playing in formal musical settings as in spontaneous jam sessions.” Following his 28-concert tour of Scotland, Jamie was heralded as “A new star for the Old World” (FiddleOn Magazine) and “The next Alasdair Fraser” (Scotland Press and Post). In the U.S., Jamie is said to be “One of North America’s finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music” (San Jose Mercury News) and “A fantastic fiddler…Laval captures the essence of Celtic sentiment and yearning” (Olympian Weekender).

In the tradition of the folk trio’s of the ‘60’s The Folk Collection combines rich three part harmonies with excellent musicianship and humor. Their music is a tribute to the songs made famous by The Kingston Trio, The Limeliters, Peter Paul & Mary, and the other great artists of the folk era. They have played to enthusiastic audiences thoughtout Southern California, including the 2006 Taste of Folk Music! “The Folk Collection was one of the most entertaining and crowd pleasing acts we have presented. The trio connected immediately with the audience, which included young children, and brought them all into their performance.” Barbara Greenspan - Nobel House Concerts.

Saturday, May 5, at 8:00 pm
A night of Blues Mandolin with Rich Del Grosso and Michael Lampert. The mandolin has been in the blues since 1903, when W.C. Handy, the “Father of the Blues,” first heard the blues played by a trio consisting of a guitar, fiddle and mandolin in Cleveland, Mississippi. Rich DelGrosso is the leading proponent and expert on mandolin blues. He was nominated for Blues Music Awards, in the Best Instrumentalist category, by the Blues Foundation in 2006 and 2007! According to Mark Hoffman, co-author of “Moanin’ at Midnight, the Life and Times of Howlin’ Wolf,” Rich DelGrosso is “the greatest living blues mandoman.” Opening for Rich will be Michael Lampert. Michael is no stranger to attendees of the Summer Solstice Festival where he leads jazz and blues mandolin workshops and he is currently the jazz and blues improvisation columnist for the international journal, Mandolin Quarterly. “Lampert’s style, though tight and sometimes cool, is full of vigor. He casually saunters and merrily meanders rather than slamming in, and gives the music just enough of a push to allow it to seep in to the deepest levels.” - Jazz Review
