Guiding Principles
CTMS believes that through sharing and celebrating traditional arts, we can better know ourselves, our neighbors, and can become more compassionate citizens of the world. Through artistic interaction, we create opportunities to dissolve misunderstandings, break down stereotypes and increase respect for one another.
CTMS believes in:
Supporting and stimulating excellence in the traditional arts, free creative expression and cultural exchange
Availability and accessibility of the traditional arts, regardless of race, age, gender, income, disability, geographic isolation, or social barrier.
Supporting learning in the folk arts for Southern Californians of all ages and fostering greater understanding of the world’s traditional arts
Establishing mutually beneficial partnerships to advance the traditional arts
Increasing area-wide awareness of the traditional arts: events, resources and opportunities
Providing financial, technical and professional support to traditional artists and nonprofit folk arts organizations
