CTMS introduces a new monthy event!
The best way to learn to play traditional Celtic music is to play with other people. In the Los Angeles area, the Celtic Arts Center Slow Session and Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles provide friendly support for players of all levels. Many of us have participated in both groups.
Celtic Session @ CTMS brings together intermediate players from these groups, on the third Sunday of every month, to play and learn tunes from the various Celtic traditions. Come join us!
Celtic Session @ CTMS is a joint effort. Robin Ellwood of the Celtic Arts Center a contributes a community that has helped many players learn tunes, gain confidence, and have a great time. CTMS contributes comfortable space for making music and keeping traditions alive. Roland Sturm of Scottish Fiddlers of LA contributes new tunes and help with learning tunes by ear.
Here’s the important info:
When: Third Sunday of each month, 3-5pm.

CTMS Needs Your Help
The California Traditional Music Society was formed more than twenty five years ago, by a dedicated group of music lovers. They were concerned that America’s folk musical heritage was in danger of being lost and that with it would be lost the community formed by those of us who love folk music. In a world full of constant reminders of intolerance and misunderstanding between individuals, communities and nations, we at California Traditional Music Society are in the business of bringing people together through consistently high quality programs that celebrate diversity. Folk Music has the power to open minds, hearts and spirits, and the California Traditional Music Society is a true testament to that vision.
To keep the vision alive we need your tax-deductible donation.

Elaine Weissman Honored by Folk Alliance
The North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance) has renamed their Lifetime Achievement Awards to honor CTMS Founder Elaine Weissman.
The Folk Alliance press release reads:
"The Folk Alliance Board is proud to announce the official renaming of their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards to the Elaine Weissman Lifetime Achievement Awards. Folk Alliance exists in large measure due to the energy and vision of Elaine Weissman. Before the first meeting in Malibu, before the organization even had a name, Elaine had the dream of uniting everyone working in folk music and dance across North America under one banner. Thanks to Elaine, her husband Clark, and the hosting organization the California Traditional Music Society, Folk Alliance was born in Malibu in 1989. Elaine has continued to serve the organization in a variety of ways, including chairmanship of the Site Selection Committee."
"The Board is proud to recognize Elaine by naming our awards after her. This is now a permanent way to pay tribute to her, to thank her, and to also recognize her deep love for traditional music, and the tradition bearers who have serve our field so well. Thanks, Elaine!"
The 2004 Elaine Weissman Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented on Thursday, February 24 to Odetta, Stan Rogers and the Newport Folk Festival.
