The Elaine Weissman
L.A. Treasures Award Program

On June 15, 2005, in commemoration of Elaine Weissman's passion and dedication to folk life and traditional art forms in Los Angeles, in the United States and around the globe, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs renamed the civic support program for individual traditional/folk artist to The Elaine Weissman Los Angeles Treasures Award Program.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) and
The California Traditional Music Society (CTMS)
are excited to announce that
"The Elaine Weissman - L. A. Treasures Award Program"
for folk and traditional artists is now accepting applications for the period
September through June.

Who can apply?
Folk or traditional performing or visual artists -- individuals or ensembles.
Folk arts organizations that DO NOT have official non-profit status.
**Applicants must be Los Angeles County residents.**

What will L. A. Treasures grant support?
This program will support two public performances, workshops, or exhibitions; one planned by the award recipient, and the other planned by DCA and CTMS. All events must take place within the City of Los Angeles.

How much are the awards?
Awards are $1,000 with the possibility of $250 in additional funds for materials and/or interpreters.

When are the awards given?
Applications are accepted and reviewed continually. Awards will be given monthly, with notifications mailed the first week of every month. If you do not receive an award within a certain month, please feel free to reapply. If you do receive an award, you are eligible to reapply to this program one year from the date of your award.
